An AI scripted video
A transformer is a type of neural network that learns human language by endlessly scrolling the internet.
Basically, like the rest of us, but without the snacks.
This artwork came out of a conversation between myself and a ChatGPT, where we tried to unpack happiness.
The AI’s source material? Questionnaires filled out by microtaskers on crowdworking platforms, people paid cents to answer questions so an algorithm can find joy on our behalf.

At some point, the AI decides the best way to express its ideas about happiness is through a video shaped like an Ideal Customer Profile, because nothing says bliss like being perfectly marketable. The dialogue? Pure AI. The actors? Digital phantoms. The footage? The internet’s leftovers.

The piece gently reminds us how we like to cast AI as the solution to everything, while quietly forgetting it’s also busy propping up the surveillance economy. There are captions. Of course there are captions.
