Business as Usual

Silkscreen print, acrylic on paper, LED, electronics
53 x 53 cm
Taking the title from two of the nine scenarios initially modelled by MIT’s World3 computer program in 1972 and published in the report Limits to Growth, they are the two forecasts that have stood the test of time and proven to be fairly accurate and relevant after 50 years.
Business as Usual represents the scenario where humanity makes no change to its trajectory and it relates to major disruptions, beginning in the first half of the 21st century.
The artworks reference the interdependent relationship humans have with nature and planet Earth’s resources, in an age of climate change and pressing issues. An LED placed on the screenprint is connected to a database and provides a simplified visualisation for each scenario.
